Sound Wavelength Calculator

Top
This calculator helps to determine the wavelength of a sound wave of particular frequency which is moving with a velocity v. Wavelength is nothing but the distance between two consecutive points in a wave. The formula for sound frequency is,
$\lambda$ = $\frac{v}{f}$
Where,
$\lambda$ = wavelength of sound,
v = velocity of a sound wave,
f = frequency of sound wave.

Steps

Step 1 : Read the problem and note down the given measures.

Step 2 : Substitute these measures in the given formula,
$\lambda$ = $\frac{v}{f}$
and find out the unknown variable.

Problems

Let us discuss the problems related to wavelength of sound.

Solved Examples

Question 1: Calculate the wavelength of sound which has a frequency 850Hz and traveling with a velocity of 340m/s.

Solution:

Given measures are,
f = 850Hz,
v = 340m/s

Wavelength of sound is,

$\lambda$ = $\frac{v}{f}$

$\lambda$ = $\frac{340}{850}$ = 0.4m

Question 2: The wavelength and velocity of a sound wave are 0.5m and 340m/s respectively. Calculate its frequency.

Solution:

Given measures are,
$\lambda$ = 0.5m,
v = 340m/s

Frequency of sound wave is,

$\lambda$ = $\frac{v}{f}$

f = $\frac{v}{\lambda}$

f = $\frac{340}{0.5}$

f = 680Hz
