# Partial Pressure Calculator

Top
The partial pressure of gas is the pressure of individual gas, in a mixture of gases, that exerts if its the only gas exists in the container.

You can see that there are two partial pressure calculator. First calculator calculates the partial pressure if the concentration of the solute along with the Henry's constant are given. And the second calculator calculates the partial pressure if mole fraction along with the Henry's constant are given.

## Steps

Step 1 : From the question, jot down the given values.

Step 2 : Formula to calculate partial pressure(p) if the concentration of the solute is given,
p = $k_H$ C
Where,
$k_H$ = Henry's law constant,
C = concentration of solute.

Formula to calculate partial pressure(p) if the mole fraction of the solute is given,
p = $k_H$ $x$
Where,
$k_H$ = Henry's law constant,
$x$ = mole fraction of solute.

Substitute the values according to the question and get the appropriate answer.

## Problems

Based on partial pressure, solved problems are given below.

### Solved Examples

Question 1: Find the partial pressure of oxygen if the container contains 0.5 moles of oxygen.
Solution:

Given :
Mole fraction of oxygen, $x$ = 0.5
Henry's constant for oxygen, $k_H$ = 4.259 $\times$ $10^4$ atm.

Partial pressure of oxygen = $k_H$ $x$
Partial pressure of oxygen = 4.259 $\times$ 10$^4$ atm $\times$ 0.5
Partial pressure of oxygen = 2.130 atm

Question 2: Find the partial pressure of nitrogen if the concentration is 0.60 mol in a balloon.
Solution:

Given :
concentration of nitogen, C = 0.60 mol
Henry's constant for nitrogen, $k_H$ = 9.077 $\times$ $10^4$ atm.

Partial pressure of oxygen = $k_H$ $x$
Partial pressure of oxygen = 9.077 $\times$ 10$^4$ atm $\times$ 0.60
Partial pressure of oxygen = 5.446 atm
