# Angular Momentum Calculator

Top
This online calculator helps to determine the angular momentum of the body which is in circular motion. Angular momentum is analogous to linear momentum. In linear momentum we are considering the mass and velocity. Instead of these parameters here we are considering the moment of inertia and angular velocity. So the formula becomes,
L = I$\omega$

In other words, angular momentum can be defined as,
L = mvr
Where,
L = the angular momentum,
I = the moment of inertia,
$\omega$ = the angular velocity,
m = the mass,
v = the velocity,
r = the radius of the circular path.

## Steps

Step 1 : Note down the parameters which are given in the question.

Step 2 : By using the suitable formula, find out the unknown value.

## Problems

Some of the solved problems of angular momentum is given below.

### Solved Examples

Question 1: Find out the angular momentum if the moment of inertia and angular velocity are 10kgm2 and 2.5 rad/s respectively.

Solution:

It is given that,
I = 10kgm2 and $\omega$ = 2.5 rad/s

Angular momentum of the given object is,
L = I$\omega$
L = 10$\times$2.5 = 25kgm2/s

Question 2: Find out the angular momentum of an object of mass 5kg, which is rotating through a circular orbit of radius 2m with a velocity of 3m/s.

Solution:

Given that,
m = 5kg, v = 3m/s and r = 2m

Angular momentum of the given object is,
L = mvr
L = 5$\times$3$\times$2 = 30kgm2/s
